Each plate, mouth-blown by Salviati's master glassmakers, is delicately placed onto a section of wooden piling originating from the lagoon. During this process, the imprints left by marine organisms on the wood are magically transferred onto the incandescent glass, creating a unique texture that forever crystallizes the biological memory of the lagoon. The result is a work with a diameter of 37 centimeters and a height of 6 centimeters, where the air-force blue of the Murano glass captures and reflects light like the Venetian waters.
Produced in a limited edition of only 39 pieces, each Fondamenta plate is a unique item that embodies the four natural elements: the earth of the lagoon sands, the water that shapes the wood of the briccole, the air of the master glassmaker's breath, and the fire of the furnace that transforms the material. The very name of the work, "Fondamenta," pays homage to the system of piles upon which ancient Venice stands, creating a symbolic bridge between past and present, between tradition and innovation.
